70’s inspired makeup look

Hey everyone! These past few days, I have been binge watching Masters of sex, which is arguably one of the best shows I’ve ever watched. It is based on the true story of an OB-GYN, William Masters (played by Michael Sheen), and his associate, Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan) who, in the 50’s, started a research about human sexual response. After over ten years compiling data, they publish a first book and a second one a few years later, and, as their research brings them closer and closer, they end up getting married, which is where the show ends.

As I was watching the final episode last night I realized how beautiful and easy Virginia’s bridal makeup look was in it and decided to recreate it, or at least get as close to it as I could. Here is the best photo I could find on Tumblr for reference:

You can’t see it very clearly here but she is wearing a very simple base with minimal blush and bronzer, a matte brown cut crease with a small winged liner on the eyes and a deep red matte lip. Oh and lashes as long as the Eiffel tower as she does all through the series.

For my recreation of her look, I went with some of the go-to products I talked about in that post: all of the base products are the same, as well as the Stila Eyes are the window palette in Soul.

For my eye makeup, I only used the shade “being” (darkish matte brown) in my crease and “light” (matte nude) all over the lid, added a nude pencil on my lower lash line, drew a little wing and of course topped it all up with my favourite ever L’Oréal Lash Paradise mascara.

My lashes aren’t nearly as long as Lizzy Caplan’s are on the show but I didn’t want to add fake lashes since I think this is a pretty wearable everyday look and didn’t want to make it too dramatic. And as usual, I haven’t got anything on my brows.

For the lips, since I am currently in the process of moving, I didn’t have all of my lipsticks with me and had to improvise in order to get as close as possible to the deep darker red Lizzy Caplan is wearing. I mixed my L’Oréal x Balmain lipstick in “Power” (a deep red brown colour) with TheBalm’s classic red “Meet Mat(te) Hughes” liquid lipstick in “Loyal” and I’m really happy with the result.

Not mentioned:

All of my face makeup is basically the exact same as what I am wearing in this post and everything is linked over there.
